• Former professional baseball player Otis Nixon, who played for the Atlanta Braves from 1991-1993 and in 1999, is the guest speaker at Good Hope Baptist Church in Dalton on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. Nixon was the centerfielder on Braves teams that made the World Series in 1991 and 1992.

Riverbend Church of Christ opens a benevolent house each Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for area residents in need. Individuals can choose from a variety of clothing, shoes, household items and more at no charge. The ministry is in the white house beside the church building at 2218 S. Riverbend Road. To donate items, drop them off during operating hours or leave them on the front porch. Tax receipts are available.

• The Trinity United Methodist Neighborhood Bargain Box will have its Big Winter Yard Sale on Friday, Jan. 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m. to noon. This sale will be in the Evans Family Life Center at the church at 901 Veterans Drive. All winter items will be on sale at reduced prices. The Bargain Box will reopen in the spring with all new spring/summer items.
