The Downtown Dalton Development Authority (DDDA) at its regularly scheduled board meeting on Dec. 20, 2017, announced the promotion of Kristi Watson to Main Street manager. Watson has for the last nine months been administrative assistant to DDDA Interim Director George Woodward.
"Kristi's promotion is recognition by the board of her dedication and service as well as her capacity to evolve into an increasingly demanding and necessary
role to move the DDDA forward," Woodward said. "Watson will be responsible for the issuing of event permits, events and promotions, communication and interaction with downtown merchants and employees. In her new role, Watson will also ensure that DDDA's Main Street program meets and/or exceeds the standards of the Main Street Georgia and the Department of Community Affairs. Watson will, in essence, be the new face of the DDDA and facilitate all office and administrative responsibilities. This is not only an opportunity for Kristi, it is an opportunity to move this organization to the next level of service and communication to and with our constituency."
Officers for 2018 were elected at the meeting. Election results are: Jane Marie Wilson, chair; T.J. Kaikobad, vice chair; Meagen Shepard, secretary; and Caleb Carnes, treasurer.
"We are excited about where we are organizationally," Wilson said. "The transition period which started in April has put us in a position to partner more effectively with other stakeholders in downtown. This time next year there will be a master plan for downtown and in our view, renewed energy toward making downtown Dalton a true destination."
The next regular meeting of the board is Monday, Jan. 22, at 9 a.m. at the Creative Arts Guild with a board development training session to follow. Ann Arnold, former executive director of Rome's Main Street and Development Authority and consultant to the DDDA board, will facilitate the session.
