Mr. Bruce Bowman, 78, of Calhoun, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at Erlanger Medical Center following several years of declining health.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1927, son of the late William Bruce and Sallie Mae Gilbert Bowman. He was retired after 32 years from the city of Calhoun as the first inspector, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on his 18th birthday on Aug. 15, 1945.
Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Hugh Nix Jr., Doc Nation and Hank Delatorre; one sister, Betty Jo Sheriff and one sister-in-law, Carol Bowman.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Marguerite Jean Cook Bowman of the home; two daughers, Kathy Ingle and her husband Kenneth of Calhoun and Rebecca Frazee and her husband Jim of Resaca; one brother, Jack Bowman and his wife Ilene of Ranger; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Sheriff of Fairmount; two sisters, Willie Mae Delatorre of Geraldine, Ala., and Lucille Nix of Fairmount; three grandchildren, Shawn and Kim Brown and Josh McEntire, all of Calhoun; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services are Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Sheriff officiating. Music will be arranged by Nan Barnette.
The family will receive friends at Brannon Funeral Home today from 5 to 9 p.m.
