Bethel A.M.E. Church invites the public to its Hour of Power Bible studies on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. followed by Bible study at 6:30 p.m. The church is at 620 Spring St.

• Do you like to sing and have fellowship with other senior adults? Then the place for you is with the Sounds of Joy. The Sounds of Joy is a senior adult interdenominational singing group sponsored by Dalton First United Methodist Church. The group normally presents four programs a year at various nursing homes and adult care facilities in Dalton and Whitfield County. Rehearsal is each Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for one hour in the music suite of Dalton First United Methodist Church. • The New Horizons meeting at First Baptist Church of Dalton is Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. This is the group's annual indoor picnic. The meat will be grilled chicken or barbecue pork. Organizers ask that everyone brings either a vegetable, salad or dessert. Please call the church office by Monday to sign up for the meat you would like and the side that you will bring. The entertainment is Ginny and The Tonics. There is no cost for the meal.

Hopewell Baptist Church celebrates Pastor Windell and first lady Cynthia Smith’s 14 years of pastoral service on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The 11 a.m. guest is Minister Calvin Watters of Bethesda Baptist Church in Plainville. The 3 p.m. guests are Pastor Melanie Prather and the New Covenant Deliverance Church family. A fellowship meal will be served after the morning worship service. Everyone is invited. Lakeside Baptist Church hosts Homecoming day Sunday. The service starts at 10:30 a.m. with guest speaker Brother Troy Simmons. Right Path will provide the special singing. Lunch in the fellowship hall will follow the service. The church is at 1399 LaFayette Road in Rocky Face.

• The New Harvest Church of Ministries celebrates the 33rd anniversary of Pastor Nicky Paul Starling and elect lady Gale Starting on Sunday, Sept. 22. The 10:30 a.m. speaker is the pastor's daughter, elder Melissa Starling Parks. The 2:30 p.m. guest is the Rev. Edward Hoggs and Shiloh Baptist Church of Dalton. Dinner will be served after the morning service from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. Everyone is invited.

• The pastor and congregation of Poplar Springs Baptist Church of Dalton will enjoy a picnic at shed No. 4 at Fort Mountain State Park on Sunday at 5 p.m. The regular Sunday night sermon will be delivered by the pastor, Brother Neil Hasty, at the park at about 6 p.m. All visitors have a special invitation to attend.

The Rev. Ronnie Nix holds a Holy Ghost tent revival through Friday, Sept. 20, next to the North Georgia Fairgrounds at 7 nightly. Everyone is invited.

Riverbend Church of Christ opens a benevolent house each Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for area residents in need. Individuals can choose from a variety of clothing, shoes, household items and more at no charge. The ministry is in the white house beside the church building at 2218 S. Riverbend Road. To donate items, drop them off during operating hours or leave them on the front porch. Tax receipts are available.

• Since 1901 Smyrna Baptist Church has been ministering to residents in south Murray County. The congregation will celebrate its 118th anniversary with Homecoming services on Sunday, but a number of special things are going on during the month. Smyrna hosts Hope for the Hungry on Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Smyrna hosts the Murray County Singing Convention at the Old Spring Place Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. Members of the congregation support associational mission programs and this year will be prayer walking at Pleasant Valley Innovative Academy in Eton each week. Valley Brook Church of God has free coats, jackets and various outerwear items, both new and used, available for children on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until they are gone at the church at 1474 Mineral Springs Road. Parents are asked to accompany children/students for fitting so there is no waste.
