The Chattanooga Area Food Bank recently promoted Melanie Hammontree to director of development. She was previously development officer for northwest Georgia at the food bank.
Hammontree has 15 years of fundraising experience, seven of which have been in nonprofit organizations. Hammontree joined the Food Bank in September 2017 as development officer for northwest Georgia, during which she held responsibility for the nine Georgia counties the food bank serves. She was promoted in May 2019 to oversee development efforts for the food bank’s entire service area. Her prior experience includes the Dalton Arts Project and Wachovia Bank (now Wells Fargo).
“Over the last two years, I’ve been amazed by the number and diversity of organizations and people who want to support the food bank’s work to nourish children, adults, seniors, veterans and anyone facing hunger,” Hammontree said. “Without their support, we would not be able to serve the 132,050 people who are food insecure in our area.”
A lifetime resident of Dalton, Hammontree attended Dalton Public Schools and earned an associate’s degree from Dalton State College and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Kennesaw State University. She is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Southeastern Chapter, and an active member of various local chambers of commerce within the food bank’s service region.
