The L'Abri String Ensemble performs a program titled "Baroque and Christmas Classics" on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Creative Arts Guild, 520 W. Waugh St. A string ensemble is a music performance group consisting solely of stringed instruments. A string quartet usually consists of two violins, a viola and a cello while quintets and larger ensembles include various combinations of those instruments. Currently a total of four violins, a viola and two cellos comprise the L'Abri String Ensemble.

The group includes members of the L'Abri Symphony Orchestra. Both groups share the same goals: developing musicianship through ensemble playing and sharing great music with the public. The group has performed at the Dalton Convention Center, Dalton State College, First Baptist Church, nursing homes, small churches and many times at the Creative Arts Guild. Current members include two music teachers and five advanced students. The group is led by L'Abri concertmaster and Guild music instructor Jim Burdick.

All L'Abri concerts are open to the public and are free. However, love offerings are always appreciated. The full L'Abri Symphony Orchestra has its Christmas concert on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Dalton. For more information about either event, contact Burdick at siroliver@windstream.net or www.creativearts guild.org/music/concerts-and-perf ormances.
