Tollis Bond, a teacher at Northwest Elementary School in Chatsworth, received the Golden Apple Teacher of the Year award during a banquet at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga earlier this year. During the last school year, nominations received by WDEF-News12 in Chattanooga resulted in the television station selecting "30 teachers in our area who have made a difference." Bond, who has been an educator for 30 years in Murray County, was one of three finalists and received the award. "I have a lot of parents that love me," Bond said. "I have a lot of people who help me. And it's amazing though, and I really can't believe it. It really is about the kids. That's the reason we are there."
