Pvt. Drewry R. Smith 2522 chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy is the official sponsor for the Wreaths Across America (WAA) program in Dalton's West Hill Cemetery.

WAA is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2007 to continue and expand the annual wreath laying ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. WAA's mission is "Remember, Honor, Teach" and is carried out by wreath laying ceremonies on the graves of veterans held in 1,640 cemeteries nationwide and overseas. Some 1.8 million wreaths were placed in 2018.

Since 2008, Congress has issued a proclamation officially recognizing national "Wreaths Across America Day" each December. This year, it is Dec. 14. The theme is "Everyone Plays a Part".

Sponsors are still needed. A $15 wreath may be purchased for West Hill Cemetery. A check payable to Wreaths Across America, can be mailed to P.O. Box 98, Tunnel Hill, GA 30755, or for more information, email waa.westhillcemetery@gmail.com.
