6 young men earn Eagle Scout badges

Six young men from Boy Scout Troop 60 at Dalton First United Methodist Church were recently presented their Eagle Scout badges.

• Jake Barnes, a rising senior at Northwest Whitfield High School. His parents are John and Laura Barnes. Jake's Eagle project consisted of designing and building a covered bench and structure at Haig Mill Park.

• Jake Dean, a 2019 Dalton High School graduate who is attending the University of Georgia this fall. His parents are Jeff and Lele Dean. Jake's Eagle project consisted of the repair and rebuild of the greenhouse and garden at Westwood School.

• Fletcher Griffin, a 2019 Dalton High School graduate who is attending Clemson University this fall. His parents are Mark and Lucy Griffin. Fletcher's project consisted of design and building of bird houses installed at Haig Mill Park.

• Sam Carlson, a 2019 Dalton High School graduate who is attending the University of Georgia this fall. His parents are Andy and Molly Carlson. Sam's project consisted of identifying and marking important historic graves in West Hill Cemetery.

• James Rogers, a 2019 Dalton High School graduate who is attending Auburn University this fall. His parents are Jimmy and Laura Rogers. James' project involved the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes office. A portion of the office was cleaned out, renovated and organized.

• Jackson Wright, a 2019 Dalton High School graduate who is attending the University of Georgia this fall. His parents are Kevin and Aquila Wright. Jackson's project was a coat drive for children,

collecting coats from the community and distributing them through the local elementary and middle schools.

This is the largest group of Eagle Scouts to come out of Troop 60 in a single year. In addition, Carlson, Fletcher, Rogers and Wright all started as Tiger Cubs together 13 years ago in Pack 60, in a den of 10 young boys. Laura Rogers and Aquila Wright were their den leaders.
