SHARPSBURG — Authorities have identified the pilot killed when his small plane crashed onto a dirt road in Coweta County.

County coroner Coroner W.H. Pierce said Lloyd Smith, 54, of Sharpsburg was flying in a small, double-winged two-seater that went down about 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses told authorities the pilot was in the course of several aerial stunts and flew the plane upside down. It hit trees next to a power line and fell to the ground.

Pierce said the plane broke into pieces but did not catch fire.
