New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill Monday that could allow lawmakers on Capitol Hill to obtain President Trump’s state tax returns, in what has been described as a "workaround" after failed efforts by House Democrats to get the president's federal returns. Previously, state tax returns had to remain private with an exception for law enforcement. The new bill — which could face a legal challenge — adds an exception that says the state’s commissioner of the Department of Taxation and Finance has to turn over information requested by the head of the House Ways and Means Committee, Senate Finance Committee or Joint Committee on Taxation. — Fox News
An exotic-looking bright orange bird was rescued by a wildlife hospital after people saw him on the side of a highway. It was unclear what was wrong with the feathery phoenix and animal rescuers were not sure what to expect at first. "This is one of the strangest casualty circumstances we have seen in a while!" declared a Facebook post from Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital, where the bird was taken. According to the hospital in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom, the bird had somehow doused himself in curry or tumeric, which prevented him from flying properly. — CNN International
A Florida man allegedly pretending to be a police officer pulled over the wrong car. Barry Lee Hastings Jr. was driving a black vehicle with white and amber lights when he spotted the car of an off-duty Lee County sheriff's deputy and activated emergency lights, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. Hastings told the deputy he needed to "slow down." The deputy twice asked Hastings for his credentials. Hastings responded that he was "a law enforcement officer and his credentials were at the office," the sheriff's office said. "He told the deputy he could follow him back to the 'station' so he could obtain and show him his credentials." — CNN
