The Latest: Dr. Fauci: Any crowd without masks is virus risk

WASHINGTON — Dr. Anthony Fauci is fighting back against questioning from a Republican lawmaker over whether recent protests increased the spread of coronavirus. Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio repeatedly pressed the top health official on whether protests in Portland and other cities against police brutality and racial discrimination should be curbed to stop the virus spread. Jordan complained that government officials “are stopping people from going to church,” but not shutting down protests. Fauci refused to be drawn into the politically sensitive debate while testifying before House lawmakers on the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rent's due, again: Monthly anxieties deepen as aid falls off

Rhode Island issues tax refunds signed by Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rhode Island mistakenly sent more than 175 tax refund checks signed by Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse, rather than the state treasurer and controller. The Rhode Island Division of Taxation uses the signatures on test files, which were mistakenly printed on the real checks and sent out on Monday, a spokesperson told WPRI-TV.

Harvey Updyke, 'Bama fan who poisoned trees at Auburn, dies

OPELIKA, Ala. — Harvey Updyke, the overzealous University of Alabama football fan who poisoned landmark oak trees at archrival Auburn University and went to jail after bragging about it on a radio show, has died. Updyke's son, Bear Updyke, named for 'Bama coaching legend Paul “Bear” Bryant, said the one-time Texas state trooper died Thursday, al.com reported. He was 71.
