Colorado got almost 2 feet of snow on the first day of summer

Summer solstice, you say? Nearly July? Judging from the almost 2 feet of snow in Colorado, Mother Nature doesn't seem to care. Snow began to fall Friday just west of Denver at elevations above 7,000 feet. Snow also has been reported in parts of Montana, according to CNN meteorologist Gene Norman. Steamboat Springs saw 20 inches of snow on Friday, according to CNN affiliate KCNC in Denver. A winter weather advisory was in effect until Sunday morning. Norman said, even for the area, snowfall at this point is rare. The last time the city saw snow this late was on June 17, 1928. — CNN

For students whose immigrant parents are deported, this California teacher offers shelter from the storm

A Los Angeles area teacher's offer of a free room to students whose parents are deported in immigration raids has gone viral. James M. Tilton, an English teacher at Eastside High School in Lancaster, about an hour and 20 minutes from Los Angeles, took to Twitter on Tuesday, in reaction to President Donald’s Trump tweet saying that “ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens." Tilton reminded his students that he and his wife “are foster certified and have an extra room” in case students need a place to stay if their parents are deported. — NBC News

Cory Booker says Trump's out to make 2020 about hate

In an impassioned speech on Saturday, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., admonished the notion of adopting President Trump's "tactics," and encouraged Democrats to make the presidential election about "love," not hate. "We will not beat Donald Trump by fighting him using his tactics on his turf, on his terms. He wants this election to be about hate," Booker shouted to a crowd at the South Carolina Democratic Convention. "We better make it about love. He wants to make this election about tearing people down. We're going to make it about building people up." Booker went on to frame the election as more than just a referendum on Trump. "It's a referendum on who we are to each other. And we are a nation of love," he said. — Fox News

Bear falls asleep in closet after entering home

A black bear has been found sleeping in a closet after apparently locking itself into a room in a home in Montana. Alerted to the intrusion in Butler Creek, police said the large mammal just yawned when officers knocked on the window to wake it up. It eventually had to be tranquilized and removed. Police warned people to lock up their homes as the bear reportedly tried at least two other doors in the area. They said the bear had somehow entered a laundry room in the house and managed to bolt the door from the inside. – BBC
