A Dalton man accused of stabbing another man early Sunday morning was denied bond in Whitfield County Superior Court on Monday.

Ernest Patrick Cordova, 40, of 4 Conway St., is accused of stabbing Marcos Cruz, 30, of Dalton, in the chest outside a business at 105 Easterling St. shortly before 2:30 a.m. Cordova is charged with aggravated assault but that charge could be upgraded to murder if Cruz dies.

“The victim is on life support,” District Attorney Kermit McManus said. “His aorta was cut.”

Cordova could also be charged with armed robbery, McManus said. Eyewitnesses said Cordova took Cruz’ wallet after they fought in the street, according to a Dalton Police Department incident report.
