Students at Dalton Public Schools' Roan School are invited to a "Back to School Blast" on Tuesday at the Roan Resource Center, 400 Vann Circle, from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
The event is hosted by the Dalton Neighborhood Initiative (DNI).
"The Dalton Neighborhood Initiative is a partnership of the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership, Dalton Public Schools, Rock Bridge Community Church, Believe Greater Dalton and other community organizations," said Greg Dent, executive director of the Healthcare Partnership.
The Tuesday event will provide books and other supplies for children, as well as free snow cones. There will also be information available for parents and registration for classes and other upcoming events.
"Basically, the goal is to help children and their parents get ready for school," Dent said.
The Dalton Neighborhood Initiative's goal is to provide parents and their children with services from birth through age 8 to help the children succeed in school and in life. The Healthcare Partnership, for instance, is trying to get qualified children enrolled in Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids, the state-federal programs that provide health care for children in low-income families. And Dalton Public Schools provides classes for parents on how to help young children develop basic literacy and numeracy skills.
