• Several local students from Samford University were named to the fall 2011 dean’s list for earning a minimum 3.5 grade point average while attempting at least 12 hours of course work. They include Dalton residents Caroline S. Harbin, Katherine E. Jewell and Audrey C. Puryear as well as Rocky Face residents Garrett A. Brown and Christina B. Robinson.

• Ginny Brewer-Boydston, a 1977 Murray County High School graduate, received a doctorate in biblical studies from Baylor University in December 2011. Her emphasis was in the Old Testament, and her dissertation was titled “Good Queen Mothers, Bad Queen Mothers: The Theological Presentation of the Queen Mother in 1 and 2 Kings.”

• Kasey Headrick of Dalton was named to the fall 2011 Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll at Piedmont College. The honor was awarded to students who maintained at least a 3.4 overall grade point average during the fall semester while competing in one of the 14 intercollegiate sports. Headrick plays softball.

• Several local students graduated in December 2011 from the Georgia Institute of Technology. They include Anna Orr of Dalton with a bachelor of science in history, technology and society; Benjamin Peyton of Dalton with a bachelor of science in physics; and Zackary Stinnett of Chatsworth with a bachelor of science in applied physics.
