A City Park Elementary School teacher remains on the job after being charged with DUI over the fall break.

Amie Eldridge Gabriel, 39, of 603 Kenilworth Court, Dalton, was charged Oct. 9 by the Dalton Police Department with DUI, having pills not in their original container, obstruction of an officer, possession of a controlled substance and failure to report an accident with a parked vehicle.

According to the police incident report, Gabriel was arrested after running into two vehicles in the parking lot of Los Pablos at 1513 W. Walnut Ave. The report says she admitted to drinking two margaritas before she drove off in her Hummer. It also says she struggled while police were placing her in handcuffs.

According to the report, Gabriel said she had ritalin in her purse because she had taken it away from a student who wasn’t supposed to have it. She also told police, according to the report, that it was raining hard when she apparently hit the two vehicles, and she was unsure if she hit them or not.

School system spokeswoman Deana Farmer said she could release only limited information on Gabriel.

“We have investigated it and made a determination that she can continue teaching in the classroom until the matter is resolved in court,” Farmer said.

A message left for Gabriel at the school on Tuesday wasn’t immediately returned.
