A 69-year-old Tunnel Hill man was charged with two counts of child molestation after two children told their mothers the man, the boyfriend of their grandmother, inappropriately touched them.
Lonnie Ball, of 119 Old Cottonwood Mill Road, was charged Wednesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office and was being held Thursday at the county jail without bond.
One of the mothers told a deputy she first had concerns when the family gathered for Easter when her child was left alone with Ball, according to incident reports from the sheriff’s office. When the mother went into the room to get her child, the child made a statement that suggested to the mother her child had been inappropriately touched.
The mother asked the child if she had been touched and she said yes. The mother said she confronted Ball, but he denied touching the child. The mother said she has kept the child away from Ball, but didn’t report the incident sooner because she was “concerned about making a false allegation.” She said she came forward after Ball's girlfriend found him hiding in a closet with a cellphone with the word “kids” in the search bar.
"(She) became concerned that there may be some type of issue going on with Mr. Ball and felt the need to report it," the report stated.
Another mother told deputies her daughter told her that Ball “touched” her for the first time “about a year ago and lasted for three or four months.”
