A Dalton man riding a motorcycle was killed in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and V.D. Parrott Parkway, according to the Dalton Police Department.
The name of the motorcycle rider, who was killed on impact, is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
"Early information in the investigation indicates that a silver GMC Sonoma pickup truck driven by 73-year-old Trammell Caldwell of Dalton was traveling northbound on V.D. Parrott and apparently attempting to turn westbound onto Walnut Avenue at the same time that a white Kia passenger car driven by 34-year-old Kenneth Blevins of Chattanooga was traveling eastbound on Walnut Avenue," according to the police department. "Those two vehicles collided in the intersection, and the impact sent the Kia into a motorcycle that was in the westbound lanes of Walnut Avenue."
The accident happened at about 9:20 a.m. and caused Walnut Avenue from Abutment Road and V.D. Parrott Parkway to be closed for about three hours.
The Dalton Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating what caused the collision. Investigators are looking for witnesses to the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information on the incident is asked to contact Officer David Saylors at (706) 278-9085, ext. 9124.
