Ollie's Discount Outlet, a discount retail chain, will open a store in the southern half of the old Kmart on Glenwood Avenue next year. Roses, another national discount chain, recently opened a story in the other part of the building.

Ollie's Discount Outlet should be opening early next year.

"We still have some work to do on the site," said Jerry Altland, vice president of real estate for Ollie's. "We are making good progress. But we won't have it open this year.

The store, located in the southern end of the former Kmart on Glenwood Avenue, will be "a little over 35,000 square feet," according to Altland.

"Dalton has been on our radar for a while," said Altland. "We have 26 stores in Georgia right now. But we have a gap between northern Atlanta and Chattanooga, and Dalton really fits in there."

Ollie's is a discount retailer headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The company's website describes it as "one of America's largest retailers of closeout merchandise and excess inventory."

"We provide cheap prices on name-brand products," said Altland.

Roses, a discount retailer with corporate headquarters in Henderson, North Carolina, recently opened a store in the northern part of the old Glenwood Avenue Kmart.
