Southeast High School principal Alan Long has been placed on administrative leave with pay, Whitfield County Schools spokesman Eric Beavers confirmed Saturday.

Beavers would provide no further details.

Rumors that Long had resigned were rampant in the stands at Friday night’s football game between Southeast and Ringgold High School.

Long denied that Friday night.

“No, absolutely not,” he said Friday night.

Asked if he planned to resign, he said, “No comment. I really don’t need to be commenting on anything like that. I don’t know what that’s all about.”

Long did not immediately return a message left on his cell phone Saturday afternoon.

Some school board members asked Friday and Saturday about Long’s status said they could not discuss the issue.

“It’s a personnel issue. I can’t discuss it. I’m not aware that he has resigned,” board member John Thomas said Friday.

“It’s a personnel matter, so I have no comment,” board member Tim Trew said Saturday.
