A man and woman believed to have broken into four vehicles in Whitfield County on Sept. 13 while the vehicles’ owners were in church began their crime spree five days earlier, according to new information from the Dalton Police Department.

The woman is seen on video from a West Walnut Avenue package store around 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 13, according to Dalton Police spokesman Chris McDonald. The woman is cashing a check that was stolen in Bartow County five days earlier, McDonald said.

Police believe the woman and a man broke into an SUV at Central Church of Christ on North Tibbs Road 15 minutes later. The couple is also believed to have stolen items from vehicles at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Jesus Is The Way Baptist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church. Those churches are located on Dixie Highway in southern Whitfield County.

Before hitting the three other churches, the woman used credit cards taken from the SUV at Central Church of Christ at three different places in Whitfield County, police said.

The couple tried to use a stolen credit card around 9:30 p.m. at a convenience store in Waleska, but the card was declined. A video from the Waleska store shows the woman then using a check stolen from Bartow County.

Anyone with information about the couple is asked to call the Dalton Police Department at (706) 278-9085.
