The Senate has approved the amended budget for fiscal year 2012.
Senators approved the budget by a vote of 51-1. Appropriations Chairman Jack Hill says the $18.5 billion budget is only slightly higher than the original budget for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.
Hill says the Senate version differed little from the House proposal, which has already been approved. Most of the new spending addresses enrollment growth and deficits in Medicaid, which is offset largely by agency cuts.
Gov. Nathan Deal earlier this week reduced the revenue estimate for the current fiscal year by $47 million.
