A 2-year-old Murray County girl who authorities said shot herself just below the navel this morning with a .25-caliber gun has gone through surgery and everything was repaired, no major organs affected, officials said.
“We are fully expecting her to survive,” Sheriff's Office Detective Brett Morrison said.
The girl, whose name has not been released, has been transferred to Erlanger Medical Center's intensive care unit in Chattanooga from Hamilton Medical Center.
“The explanation was that she did it and all of the evidence points to that,” Morrison said. “At this point it’s safe to say it was an accident.”
911 received the call at about 10:35 from the father, Sheriff Gary Langford said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was at the scene, 419 Fullers Chapel Road. The gun was recovered.
Names are not being released at this time.
