Today's Forum for Feb. 7

"When they couldn’t convince America that he didn’t do it, they switched over to he did it, but there’s nothing wrong. Both defenses are nonsense."

"Read that Mayor Pennington and the City Council are making code enforcement a priority. Thank you! However, this taxpayer wonders why code enforcement officers haven't been taking care of business — especially since the city bought a couple of four-wheel-drive vehicles just for them. Why pricey four-wheel-drive pickups are needed on paved city streets is unclear."

"Dear Murray County: Declaring yourself a Second Amendment sanctuary is redundant. You have always been a Second Amendment sanctuary. The right to bear arms is guaranteed you by the Constitution. No one is going to take your gun. 'A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.'"

"I’ve ridden countless times on New York City subways and I’ve seen much worse than breastfeeding. Here’s a bit of advice: Don’t look. I realize that won’t sit well with those who want the world to adjust to them, a seemingly popular philosophy in this area."

"Just wondering if some of the SPLOST monies, if approved, could fund a nice sidewalk on North Thornton Avenue between West Tyler Street and the Salvation Army building. I see so much foot traffic through there on a daily basis that are so close to getting hit by passing cars!"

"For the teacher hater(s) who keep filling the Forum with hateful comments about teachers, I just want you to realize that we have excellent teachers in Dalton and Whitfield County who work themselves to death to be effective teachers for your children. Instead of bashing them, you need to be thanking them."

"More Republicans need to follow Mitt Romney's example and put the country and the Constitution ahead of loyalty to Trump."

"The only Republican in the Senate with a moral compass is Mitt Romney."

"It was very amateurish and bungling for Nancy Pelosi to think that Adam Schiff, a person with a long track record of deceit and distortion who has peddled a multitude of exaggerations, misrepresentations and outright falsehoods, would ever be accepted by senators as remotely credible. He spent more than two years claiming to have ‘indisputable’ and ‘substantial’ evidence that Trump and his campaign engaged in a collusion conspiracy with Russia to steal the 2016 presidential election. Except that he didn’t."

"It's times like these when I fondly remember Ron Arnold. There would have been no confusion on the public’s part about what was going on locally. We would have known everything we needed to know about the air show, including the price of tickets. There would have been no surprises!"

"Although I never knew Ladd McConkey personally, I did get to watch him quarterback for North Murray 12 of the 13 games in 2019, and I'm so proud he signed with the Dawgs. I'm sure he will make us all proud."

"As part of Black History Month, Dalton should make plans to claim the monument to the victims of lynching from the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery."

"Can anyone tell me of a successful business venture that our elected officials participated in? I'm talking about the taxpayer's success, not the officials. Government has no business being in business."

"Before handing over $50,000 of taxpayer money to the air show promoter, did it not occur to anyone on the City Council to ask minimum attendance required? How could the city confidently say they could provide adequate parking, police and fire protection without knowing minimum attendance? Add this to the city's boondoggle list."
