Sarah Lavender has made Brookwood School part of her family, says Brookwood Principal Meleia Bridenstine.
Lavender is the president of the Brookwood Parent-Teacher Organization and the mother of two boys at the school. But Bridenstine says that doesn't begin to describe Lavender's involvement with the school.
"She doesn't like to take credit, but Sarah is the momentum and spirit behind so many amazing family events at Brookwood," Bridenstine said. "She helps provide opportunities for quality family engagement and getting parents excited about being involved. She tirelessly assists with designing events for families to bring them together at the school so that they know that the school is a safe, welcoming and loving place where their families are very much needed."
Some of the events Lavender has organized over the years include the school's first family dance night.
"It was a free event for the children and their families. We had a DJ and lights and photography and free snacks," said Bridenstine. "She wanted to give families something positive to do together at the school."
Bridenstine said Lavender also works hard at getting volunteers for various school functions.
"She wants to give everybody a chance to be involved," she said. "She's just always helpful."
For her efforts to make Brookwood School a welcoming place for students and their families, the Daily Citizen-News names Sarah Lavender Citizen of the Week.
