Editorial: United Way to kick off another campaign, and you're invited

September means many things to our community -- from high school football to the start of the slow crawl towards Christmas. But early fall also means it's time for the annual United Way of Northwest Georgia Campaign Kickoff.

This community event is open to everyone. You're invited.

The annual Campaign Kickoff and CEO Trike Race is Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burr Performing Arts Park in downtown Dalton. There, the campaign cabinet and the United Way board will unveil the 2019 campaign goal -- and then the fun begins.

During the annual CEO Trike Race, executives trade their dress shoes for tennis shoes and race the streets of downtown Dalton to see who the fastest professionals are in Dalton.

The band Barrelhouse performs during dinner in the park. Dinner tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and younger. You can buy them at the event or in advance at www.ourunitedway.org. Dinner ticket options are from Cherokee Brewing + Pizza Co., John's BBQ and Zaxby's. There will also be shaved ice from Kona Ice and drinks from Cherokee Brewing + Pizza Co. available for purchase.

In 2018, our local United Way impacted 55,000 lives in the community by focusing on education, basic needs and health. That year, the United Way set a record goal to raise $4.1 million. Not only did our community step up to reach that goal, we exceeded.

We expect the next campaign to be more of the same.

We hope you're able to attend the party in the park on Tuesday. Also, if you're able, we hope you can contribute to the United Way this campaign season.
