Editorial: We offer congratulations to our graduating high school seniors

To all of our graduating high school seniors clad in their caps and gowns this month during graduation season, we tip our caps.

Your 13-year journey from kindergarten to high school comes to an official end this month as you hear your name called, walk across the stage, shake hands with dignitaries and receive your diploma.

For some 1,700 seniors in high schools in Whitfield and Murray counties and our local homeschool students, graduation ceremonies kicked off last week and continue through this week. North Murray got the festivities going on Friday, while our nine other high schools continue the convocations today through Saturday.

While many students will go straight into the workforce, many are headed to college or to post-secondary education. Others have joined the military and will soon depart for training.

Wherever you are headed, we congratulate our graduating students at Christian Heritage School, Coahulla Creek, Dalton, Morris Innovative, Murray, North Murray, Northwest Whitfield, Phoenix, Pleasant Valley Innovative and Southeast Whitfield. We also offer our best to our area homeschool students who are graduating.

The Daily Citizen-News pays tribute to these students with a special 28-page "Salute to Our Graduates" section in today's newspaper. In this full color edition, you'll see photographs of graduating students from our 10 high schools in Whitfield and Murray counties. We hope you enjoy seeing the smiling faces of so many proud graduates.

These graduates couldn't have done it alone. We know graduation isn't only for the graduates. Family, friends, coaches, teachers, mentors, pastors and others have all made huge impacts on the youth of Whitfield and Murray counties.

To our graduating seniors, best of luck in whatever you pursue after high school. One journey ends, another begins. Congratulations!
