In an effort to bring awareness to the problem of domestic violence, the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center is holding its sixth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event today at Dalton State College.
Organizers are asking men to step out against domestic violence in a big way by walking in a pair of women's shoes.
The event begins at 11:30 a.m. and the walk will start at noon from the Burran Bell Tower.
While the event is geared toward men getting involved, women and children are encouraged to participate.
Organizers say people can still register today for $10 a person. All proceeds will go to provide services to help victims and survivors of domestic violence.
Domestic violence not only affects the victim, but also those around them who may witness the acts, especially young children. It leaves more than physical scars, but also emotional wounds.
If you are the victim of domestic violence, seek help. It has been said that love shouldn't hurt and neither should you.
The 24-hour hotline number for the services of the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center is (706) 278-5586. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 800-799-SAFE.
