Three teams were tied for the Championship Flight lead after the first round of the 3rd Annual Lowell Fritz Senior/Mid-Am Challenge on Saturday at Dalton Golf and Country Club.

The teams of Gary Brock and John Powell, Chris Demarco and Mark Strickland, and Kevin Law and Ronnie Law all shot opening-round 64s to take the early edge.

The teams of Brandon Nelson and Don Marsh, Jeff Goliher and Julian Saul, and Larry Clark and Randy Donahoo were all one stroke back of the leaders, while only seven shots separated the bottom of the flight from the leaders.

In Championship A, the teams of Dick Martin and John Martina and Brian Durden and Mike Keeble were tied for the lead at 67, while Mike Townsend and Pete Ware and Beve Chandler and Stan Manley were a shot behind.

In Championship B, Donny Peppers and Walt Moffitt carded the day’s best round at 61 for a five-stroke lead over Gary Cole and Jeff Taylor, while Alan Key and Terry Moon finished the opening round at 69.

In Championship C, C.J. Dodd and Cres Dodd hold the lead at 67, while Jeff Manley and Melvin Nicholson are two strokes back and Bill Minchew and Harry Elsey and John Underwood and Ty Cheek are tied for third at 71.

The tourney finishes with today’s final round, beginning at 9 a.m.
