The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association will host its 81st Awards Banquet and 19th Annual Hall of Fame Weekend on Friday and Saturday at the Dalton Convention Center. A reception will be Friday at 7 p.m. and a banquet, when the new inductees will join the Hall of Fame, will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
There will be five coaches inducted into the Hall of Fame this year including, football coach Dwight Hochstetler from Bowdon High School, basketball coaches Matt Troutman from Taylor County High School and Dr. Aaron "Pete" Geter from Wilkinson County High School, baseball coach Bobby Howard from Columbus High School and cheer coach Pamela Carter from Hardaway High School.
Award winners for this year include, Official of the Year -- A. Nicholas Brown Jr. from Conyers; Lee Murray Award -- Ronnie Parson from Villa Rica; Beverly Sanders Raines Award -- Phyllis Skinner from Carrollton; Dwight Keith Award -- Hal Lamb from Calhoun; Carlton "Corky" Kell Award -- Tommy Palmer from Statesboro; Nike Coach of the Year -- Maurice Freeman from Brooks County High School; Sam Burke Award -- Alan Smith from Vidalia; Lifetime Membership Award -- George Spencer from Sylvania and The Executive Director Award -- John Page from Southeast Bulloch High School.
There have been 97 coaches inducted since 2001 when the Hall of Fame was established. Included in the 97 are Dalton coaches Bill Chappell and Hayden Wagers.
