Coahulla Creek 11, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 9
After a tie game heading into the sixth inning, Coahulla Creek came away with a win over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe in a region tournament elimination game on Tuesday to earn a spot in the Class 3A playoffs at the Calhoun Recreational Complex, 11-9.
The Lady Colts scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win.
"I'm extremely proud of this group," Coahulla Creek coach Josh Swiney said. "We went through a stretch where we were at the bottom of the region, and we battled our way back to earn a trip to state."
Offensively, Sophia Voyles was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, RJ Janke was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Meka Henson had three RBIs with one hit.
Voyles pitched the first two innings, and Jillian Poe came in for the last five.
Sonoraville 8, Coahulla Creek 3
Coahulla Creek earned the No. 4 spot for Region 6-3A in its loss to Sonoraville on Tuesday, 8-3.
Sonoraville scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, and the Lady Colts (14-8, 4-4 in Region 6-3A) could not recover.
McKinley Staten led the efforts going 2-for-4 with one RBI. MiKayla Teems was 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
Poe pitched one inning before Voyles came in to close the last five with nine strikeouts.
"Sophia has been outstanding her last several outings," Swiney said. "She gives us a chance to win each time out."
Coahulla Creek awaits its opponent for its first-round playoff matchup with the No. 1 seed from Region 8-3A to begin next week. The Lady Colts are on the road for the best two-out-of-three series.
"We look forward to traveling," Swiney said. "Their region is very similar to ours competition-wise, so we'll no doubt be tested in round one."
