After the Georgia High School Association released its reclassification lists last week, the organization's Reclassification Committee's heard appeals from school's arguing their placements on Tuesday and also finalized its region re-alignments for the next two school years.
While no schools within Whitfield and Murray counties changed classifications, their regions did shift.
Dalton was placed in Region 5-6A along with Alexander, Carrollton, Douglas County, East Paulding, Rome and South Paulding.
Northwest Whitfield and Southeast Whitfield will move to Region 7-4A with Cedartown, Central-Carrollton, Heritage-Catoosa, Pickens and Ridgeland.
Coahulla Creek, Murray County and North Murray remain in Region 6-3A and are joined by Adairsville, LaFayette, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, Ringgold, Rockmart and Sonoraville.
Christian Heritage moves to Region 7-A — Class A-Private — with Darlington, Mount Paran, North Cobb Christian and Walker.
Schools now have the chance to appeal their region placements and appeal requests will be taken no later than 4 p.m. on Monday. The committee will meet again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday to finalize the alignments which are effective for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years.
