Coahulla Creek High School freshman Kaylee Bandy won the girls 3200 meters at the Class 3A state track meet Friday at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.

Bandy ran a time of 11:36.16 to beat out second-place finisher Katherine Law from Jefferson with a time of 11:44.57. Bandy also placed fifth in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:23.41.

Though she is still young, Coahulla Creek coach Dan Tierney said he felt good about Bandy's chances of winning a state title.

"I didn't know a lot about the other girls from the other regions, but I knew Kaylee could definitely compete well," he said. "She's been great all year."

Bandy again broke her own school record by running a personal best in her state championship race.

Also for the Colts at the state meet, Harris Gallegly placed 15th in the boys 3200 meters with a time of 11:01.8.

Northwest Whitfield

Northwest Whitfield High School sent two athletes to the Class 4A state meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.

Silas Griffin placed second in the boys high jump at 6 feet, 4 inches. He was the region 6-4A champion as only a freshman. After winning the Region 6-4A title, junior Lexi Edwards placed ninth in the girls shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 7 inches.

Southeast Whitfield

Southeast Whitfield High School had two athletes compete at the Class 4A state meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.

Junior Haylee Terry placed third, while also setting a school record, in girls discus with a throw of 118 feet, 3 inches. Senior Diego Guzman placed 10th in the boys 3200 meters with a time of 10:04.74, while also setting a school record.

Dalton

Dalton High School had four athletes place at the Class 6A state meet at Grisham Stadium at Carrollton High School in Carrollton.

Jeric Montgomery placed seventh in the boys long jump at 22 feet, 7.5 inches. Lance Sotelo placed eighth in the boys 3200 meters with a time of 9:57.21. Christian Morgan placed 13th in the boys shot put with a throw of 46 feet, .25 inches. Malachi Gregory placed 13th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.36.

Christian Heritage

Christian Heritage School had three athletes place at the Class A-Private state meet at Valhalla Stadium at Berry College in Rome.

Kensly Wooten placed sixth in the girls discus with a throw of 98 feet, 10 inches. Duane Jones placed seventh in the boys shot put with a throw of 141 feet. Mackenzie Hoffman placed 12th in the girls triple jump at 33 feet, 1 inch.
