Northwest Whitfield finished with a 3-3 record at the Blessed Trinity (Catholic High School) Serve for the Cure Tournament on Saturday in Roswell after finishing third in pool play and falling in the first round of the gold (winner's) bracket.
The Lady Bruins (29-9, 5-1 in Region 6-4A) defeated North Forsyth, 25-22, 25-20; Woodward, 25-23, 25-15; and Mount Pisgah in three sets, 25-20, 20-25, 15-9. They fell to Norcross, 16-25, 25-23, 6-15, and Columbus, 16-25, 21-25, and then lost to Milton, 19-25, 25-27, in the first round of bracket play.
For the tournament, Emma Allen finished with 41 kills, 39 assists and 34 digs and was named to the all-tournament team. Emma Hayes had 34 kills and 27 digs, while Kiara Hughes had 54 assists and Kiersten Maynard had 34 digs. Abigail Crawford added 14 aces, and Nicole Thurman had 23 blocks. Sam Johnson and Whitley Chumley both finished with 20 digs.
Northwest is back in action at 6 p.m. on Thursday when it hosts the winner of Southeast Whitfield and Pickens in the first round of the Region 6-4A tournament. A win for the Lady Bruins will earn them a spot in the Class 4A playoffs.
