After dropping the Region 6-4A championship match in uncharacteristic fashion last week, Lady Bruins coach Kelsey Ikerd said her team played much better to open the state tournament.
All six hitters for the team finished with at least two kills to spread the wealth as Emma Allen led the team with 11 kills, 10 assists and six blocks. Emma Hayes had seven kills and five digs, while Kiersten Maynard finished with six kills and five aces. Abigail Crawford added five kills, four blocks and six aces. Kiara Hughes finished with 20 assists, and Sam Johnson had seven digs.
"We came out really focused and really ready," Ikerd said. "Today our goal was to control the speed of the game and we really did that."
Moving forward, Ikerd wants her players to continue their aggressive mindset.
"We can't afford to have those mental lapses," she said. "Anything can happen in the state tournament."
