Omaury Alvarez Jr. has been a competitive wrestler for nine years, and over the past year he's had a successful season.
Throughout his career, Alvarez Jr. is a seven-time state champion in folkstyle; a six-time national champion in folkstyle; while at Eastbrook Middle School he was the middle school champion three years in a row; third place in Dixie Nationals; and second place in the National High School Coaches Association Tournament. He also competes as a member of various travel teams such as Minions and M2 (David Taylor's traveling team).
In addition to these accomplishments, a few weeks ago he competed in the Olympic Styles State Championships and he won first place in both styles (freestyle and Greco) earning him the Triple Crown award. As a result, he, along with about 30 other middle school-aged boys from all over the state were selected to represent Georgia in a National Team Duals the week of June 11 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He will also be traveling at the end of June to Wisconsin to wrestle in the freestyle and Greco national tournaments.
Along with this honor comes the expense of these trips. He has earned some credits for his trip, but the credits only cover about a third of the cost. He still needs $1,000 for both trips.
"We are making an effort to find sponsors to help him to compete at the national level with Team Georgia," his mother Ambra Julian said. "Please know that any contribution you can make will be greatly appreciated and it is also tax deductible."
