Another game, another win.
The No. 5-ranked Dalton State College Roadrunners reeled off their school record-tying fifteenth win in a row Thursday night on the road against Blue Mountain (Mississippi), 93-87. With the Southeastern States Athletic Conference victory, the Roadrunners improved to 22-1, 11-1 SSAC. Blue Mountain fell to 11-9, 4-8 SSAC.
This Dalton State team tied the 2016-17 Roadrunners’ 15-game win streak. That team went 29-5 and made the Round of 8 in the NAIA Tournament.
This current team’s last defeat came on Nov. 23, 2019, an 81-78 overtime loss to Middle Georgia State University at the Dalton Convention Center.
In Thursday night’s game, Kevon Tucker paced Dalton State with 25 points followed by three teammates in double figures: Rodley Adjei (18 points), Randy Bell (13 points) and C.J. Perry (12 points). Igor Stokic had seven points and eight rebounds.
The teams were tied at 48 at the half, and Dalton State trailed for parts of the second quarter. The Roadrunners fought back to outscore Blue Mountain by six points in the second half.
Dalton State could eclipse the school record for consecutive wins on Saturday when the Roadrunners travel to take on Bethel University (Tennessee) at 2 p.m.
In their previous matchup this season on Jan. 11, the Roadrunners beat Bethel (16-8, 7-5 SSAC), 85-84, at the Dalton Convention Center.
This is the Roadrunners’ first top-5 ranking since March 29, 2017, when they came in at No. 5. It is also the highest in-season ranking in school history. Dalton State held the No. 1 ranking in the last poll of the 2014-15 season after winning the NAIA Division I National Championship and in the 2015-16 season preseason poll when the Roadrunners were ranked No. 1 coming off the championship.
