Three boys and three girls, ages 8-13, captured Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot titles last weekend in competition held at Valley Point Middle School.

Sara Richards made 13 free throws to win the 8-9 girls division with Alexis Storey finishing second with 12.

In the 10-11 girls, Kelsey hall hit 13 to take first place ahead of Kaitlin Wade (12) and Katie Kirk (11).

Mary Faith Erwin made 14 shots and captured the 12-13 girls title. Judy Hernandez (12) was second and Randi Keener (3) took third.

Caleb Storey won the 8-9 boys with 29 shots while Michael Ward was second with 28 and Bay Braun third with 15.

Christopher Brown hit 15 to claim the 10-11 boys crown over Robert Enck (13) and Austin Coppock (12).

Landon McClure hit 17 shots to wi the 12-13 boys division with Case Mathis (9) finishing second.

Other participants in the local competition were Larocque King, Kyle Calhoun, Mallory Souther, Brady Middleton, Blake Young and Jackson Dinges.

The six champions advance to the district finals to be held at Calhoun High School on Feb. 11. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the contest begins one hour later.

Winners and their parents travel to state regional and national competitions, courtesy of the Elks. More than 3 million boys and girls are expected to compete in the Hoop Shoot this year. Names of national winners will be inscribed on the Elks National Hoop Shoot plaque, which is on permanent display at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

The Elks‚ Hoop Shoot originally started as a local event in Corvallis, Ore., in 1946.
