Three Northwest Whitfield Lady Bruins will play in the Georgia-Tennessee All-Star basketball game on June 13 at LaFayette High School.

Vanessa Jackson, Brinkley Knowles and Larken Logan, who helped the Lady Bruins capture Region 7-4A regular season and tournament championships, are among 12 players on the Georgia roster.

Jackson was The Daily Citizen’s All-Area Player of the Year while Knowles and Logan were selected to the All-Area squad. That trio helped Northwest to an overall 27-3 record, including a perfect 21-0 mark in region play. The Lady Bruins’ season ended in the state tournament at the trade center.

“Being picked for the all-star game is just another tribute to what those three girls did for Northwest,” Lady Bruins coach Margaret Stockburger said Wednesday. “It give thems one more chance to represent our school and show what they meant to the program.”

Other players on the Georgia girls roster are, Christine Hollander of Calhoun; Connie Buchanan and Jernae Stevens of Ridgeland; Courtney Brown of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe; Miranda Caheely and Shana Garrett of LaFayette; Jennifer Bruce of Pepperell; Rozellyn Eubanks of Trion; and Jheri Booker of Chattooga County.

The team will be coached by LaFayette’s Matt Swanson.

Five area boys are included on the Georgia roster, including Murray County’s Daylon Mathis, the All-Area Player of the Year.

Mathis is joined on the team by Christian Heritage’s Stephen McClellan, Nic White of Southeast, Sam Shacklett of Dalton — each an All-Area selection — and Steven Straw of Northwest Whitfield.

The boys team will be coached by Ridgeland’s Chris Edge.
